Haiti 1 Year Later

World Hope International has been able to do much with the generous donations that streamed in following Haiti’s earthquake. One year later, Haiti is working to rebound, and WHI has been there every step of the way. Check out this video with all the great things that WHI has been able to accomplish in the last 12 months.

Fresh Water!

The kids are now receiving fresh water with the arrival of the generator. The generator was made possible by Roberto Herrera, CEO of CESPM, and the transportation was made possible by Dr. Luis Asilis, CEO of Group Metro. Both of these gentlemen are members of YPO in the Dominican Republic.

600 Gallons of Milk Donated!

Today Project Starfish Haiti confirmed the donation of 12,000 cartons (600 gallons) of milk to be donated to WHI for the children of Haiti. The donation has been made by Mr. Pedro Brache, CEO of Grupo Rica in the Dominican Republic. He is a member of YPO.

WHI requested that about 1/3 of the cartons for the children at the orphanage and be able to deliver the remaining cartons to other children and at-risk caregivers (mostly mothers) in the parks where WHI is working to provide essential foods and water. There are two reasons for our special request: first, malnutrition is growing and we struggle to think of holding back a large supply of wonderful milk when the situation grows so desperate; and, secondly, it is increasingly risky to store large amounts of food when so many people are desperate for it.

The WHI team from Haiti will be meeting Mr. Brache’s team at the border to accept the delivery of the donation and start distribution.

Haiti Relief Donations Qualify for Immediate Tax Relief

Taxpayers who itemize deductions on their 2009 return qualify for this special tax relief provision, enacted Jan. 22. Only cash contributions made to these charities between Jan. 11 – March 1, 2010, are eligible.

300 Mattresses Donated!

Anatomic Global donated 300 mattresses to the orphanage in Leogane. Check out their Press Release of the full Haiti efforts.

Thanks also to Bruno Ramos of BEA International out of Miami, Florida for coordinating the transportation of the mattresses. Bruno is a YPO member.

Generator Update

We were just notified that the generator for the orphanage has been delivered and it is working! Thanks to everyone that was involved in making this happen. The generator was made possible by Roberto Herrera, CEO of CESPM. He is a member of YPO in the Dominican Republic.
